Our Mission
InvestEd Nebraska works to create a just public educational system with full and fair funding.
We are a statewide coalition of policy specialists, advocates, parents, students, educators and organizations who believe every child in every zip code across the state of Nebraska should have access to a high-quality public education. Our members advocate and organize across the state, within our communities, at legislative hearings and at the Nebraska Legislature.
Our vision is that all students, particularly underserved student groups, receive the funding and support they need to realize the education promised to them.
Our Five Areas of Focus
Full & Fair Funding
A fair funding system for K-12 education in Nebraska must end persistent funding cuts to public schools, find new methods of raising revenue to make sure that the state’s funding commitment is based on what students need to achieve and thrive, not just on current revenues.
Increased State Revenue Directed Toward K-12 Education
We advocate and organize for a greater commitment from the state to raise revenues for the purpose of fully funding our public schools. Nebraska’s children deserve a high-quality public education, which requires bold and innovative means of raising revenue for our schools.
Fighting Discriminatory Private School Vouchers
We believe that the state Legislature should uphold the will of Nebraska voters by ensuring that public dollars go to public schools, not to private school voucher programs.
Academic Freedom
A fair funding system must offer Nebraskans the freedom to teach and learn without the fear of ideologically motivated interference.
Improving Student Outcomes
A fair funding system must meaningfully engage the public, specifically those students and families closest to the education process, on how public funds should be spent to best meet community needs. It must also acknowledge and work to break down systems that have historically and do presently discriminate against students and families based on race, national origin, disability status, religion, gender, English-language proficiency, geography and economic resources.
